EU might suspend funding of 150 million dollars from Polish regions over LGBT-free zones

Ever since 5 provinces in Poland declared themselves as LGBT-free zones, EU has threatened the Polish government with suspending the financial aid of 150 million dollars.

According to media, the European commission sent an official letter to the governors of the provinces, warning them that if the resolutions adopted are not canceled, they will not get the financial aid.

This amount is supposed to be spent on rebuilding economy that was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The amount allocated to Poland for this purpose is more than 1.5 billion euros.

The European Union has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights against Poland and Hungary, saying that it will use all available means to protect the rights of LGBTQ people.
